Twenty-six elementary and high school principals were on campus recently for the first annual TCU College of Education Educational Leadership Lyceum. The project was organized by Melody Johnson (COE) as a means of providing high performing principals with an in-depth professional development program focusing on learning that could be implemented this fall in their schools. It is the philosophy of the College of Education that effective leadership in the schools an essential, perhaps the essential, ingredient in providing the quality of education.

Sessions began Thursday and ran each day through lunchtime Saturday in the University Union. Keynote speaker was Dr. Tim Quinn, author of In the Arena: Building the Skills for Peak Performance in Leading Schools and Systems. He is recognized nationally as a pioneer in superintendent preparation, coaching and support.

Throughout his career, Quinn has also served as an English teacher and football coach, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent and, at age 32, was appointed superintendent of the 20,000-student Green Bay Public Schools in Wisconsin.

Other sessions included such topics as The Art of Constructive Data Use, Predictions of Technology in Education and Strategies for Selecting and Developing Great Leadership Talent.

Participants were housed on campus and dined at the BLUU.
