School of Music alum will perform with current students

The TCU Jazz Combos concert on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at PepsiCo Recital Hall will feature veteran brass musician Morris Repass, performing with the student musicians. The event is free and open to the public.

A TCU alumnus, Repass was a trombonist with the Dallas Symphony for a decade before moving to Los Angeles where he has performed and recorded for the past 45 years. He has been a member of The Simpsons TV show orchestra since the show debuted in 1989. Repass has recorded with a number of legendary artists, including Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Paul McCartney and Prince.

The TCU concert will feature three student combinations of trombones, euphoniums and tubas as well as the TCU Jazz Ensemble. Repass will perform “Angel Eyes,” “Blues Bossa,” “Day of Carnival,” and “Ain’t Misbehavin’” in the second half of the concert with the brass groups and the Jazz Ensemble.

On Monday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. in Ed Landreth Auditorium, Repass will present a brass masterclass and speak on what it takes to be a successful studio musician in Los Angeles. He will also reflect on his 50-plus years of working, performing and recording.
