Students can enhance their learning experience in TCU’s modern Center for GIS & Remote Sensing or by working at the Unconventional Reservoirs-Core Lab Facility through the Energy Institute. Some might choose to spend summers at the TCU Costa Rica Field Station for rain forest investigations or explore the benefits of Texas wind farm development through the Institute of Environmental Studies. Students also have the opportunity to get involved in meteorite analysis through TCU’s world-renowned Monnig Meteorite Gallery and its association with The Smithsonian Institution. The new school will include 14 faculty members dedicated to creating unique teaching and research opportunities for students interested in meeting the new challenges we face related to natural resources, energy and the environment.
“Our new School of Geology, Energy & The Environment pulls together related program and institute resources within the College of Science and Engineering to provide a unique opportunity for our faculty and students to focus on the pressing issues we face related to earth resources mapping, environmental management and our energy future,” said Ken Morgan, director of the School of Geology, Energy & The Environment. “Over 70 energy and environmental companies are linked directly to the new School to help provide enhanced programs for students wanting to major in geology, environmental science or resource management. We also offer a minor in energy technology and management for any student at TCU as well as industry funded energy scholarships. The new School demonstrates TCU’s commitment to being a leader in innovative education and integrated research programs to help better understand and solve complex resource and environmental issues.”
