TCU College of Fine Arts ads marking the Century of Partnership will appear in local theater and concert programs through the next year.
“TCU and the City of Fort Worth have enjoyed a mutually-beneficial relationship for the past 100 years,” said Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. “Through this relationship, TCU has been able to grow and evolve into the world-class, values-centered University it is today. It is hard to imagine TCU without Fort Worth.”
After beginning in Thorp Spring, Texas, in 1873, TCU moved to Waco, Texas. A fire destroyed the Waco campus in 1910, leading the University to seek other locations. After receiving proposals for multiple Texas cities, TCU selected Fort Worth based on its generous offer from civic leaders. The University spent a year in a series of rented buildings in downtown Fort Worth until moving to its present location in 1911.
“Fort Worth is proud and honored to partner with TCU. It's a mutually beneficial and long-standing relationship that continues to lift both entities to new heights,” said Mayor Mike Moncrief. “Through its outstanding academic and athletic programs, TCU has shown a brilliant spotlight on Fort Worth; and the attention presents an invaluable opportunity to highlight the best Fort Worth and this outstanding university have to offer.” A recent report on the economic impact TCU has had in the city of Fort Worth demonstrates the benefits of the partnership. According to the report prepared by Impact Data Source, the economic activity generated by the University translates into substantial revenues in the area. The City of Fort Worth and other local taxing districts receive revenues from the University, its employees, students, and out-of-town visitors.
The momentum demonstrated here has been recognized in U.S. News & World Report’s list of Up & Coming National Universities, in which TCU ranked in the top 20. TCU also ranked in the top 100 Best Colleges in U.S. News & World Report’s 2011 edition.
TCU will celebrate the return to and partnership with the City of Fort Worth over the next year through the following events and activities:
• August 20 - Mayor Mike Moncrief addressed TCU faculty and staff it its annual Opening Luncheon in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
• August 30 - The addition of a historical marker noting the rented buildings TCU occupied in 1910-1911 will be added to the city’s Heritage Trails program. The marker will be unveiled at the corner of Commerce and Weatherford streets.
• September 9 – Convocation and Founder’s Celebration. Chancellor Boschini will discuss the Century of Partnership during his address. The Annual Founders’ Celebration display in the reading room of the TCU Library will feature information and photographs pertaining to the Century of Partnership. Photos will demonstrate unique events in downtown Fort Worth and in the community that highlight the partnership.
• September 17- TCU Family Weekend. The weekend will feature a candlelight tour of campus beginning with a historical presentation on TCU & Fort Worth, followed by a tour of historical buildings on campus.
