Health care update
Published: 12/6/2010

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and Texas Health Resources are currently renegotiating their contract.  Such negotiations can reveal new challenges that entities must work through, sometimes through extended periods of time. BCBSTX and THR are currently working through some of those challenges and will continue to do so through the end of this year.

TCU will continue to monitor the negotiations and will let you know the outcome as soon as a resolution has been reached.

What does this mean to me?

TCU will continue to monitor the contract negotiations.  While unlikely, if negotiations are unsuccessful, TCU will provide you with the following options:

  •   If contract negotiations are not successful and you have elected the Exclusive Provider (In Network Only) Plan option, TCU will give you an opportunity to change to a plan that provides out-of-network coverage.
  •   If contract negotiations are not successful, and you want to find a BCBSTX doctor instead of filing for out-of-network coverage, TCU will provide assistance to help you work with BCBSTX resources to identify a doctor or facility in the BCBSTX network.
  •   You can always access a THR hospital for emergency care no matter the outcome of contract negotiations.
  •   If you have questions about benefits, how to address transition of your care issues for current treatment regimens, or about other network providers in the area, please contact Customer Service at 1-888-762-2190.

When will I know the result of the contract negotiations?

  •   The current contract between Texas Health Resources and Blue Cross Blue Shield expires on Dec. 31, 2010.  As soon as there is a resolution, TCU will send out an e-mail to all faculty and staff.

Does this impact my healthcare options or CARES insurance before Dec. 31, 2010?

  No
