The University Rec Center opened on Jan. 27, 2003 after a $30 million addition and renovation to the outdated Rickel Bldg. which went up in 1972. The 232,500 square foot facility is said to provide one of the highest amounts of recreation space per student in the nation. (While the national average for campus recreation space is 14.5 square feet per student, TCU offers more than 20 square feet per student).

More items of note:
  • The Rec Center averages more than 450,000 participations per year
  • Approximately 94% of students utilize the facility per year
  • Approximately half of all TCU faculty and staff have memberships
