Neeley School garners CFA Institute recognition
Published: 1/28/2013

TCU is among the latest universities to be welcomed into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program. The Neeley School of Business’ undergraduate BBA program for finance majors and MBA program have been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA candidate body of knowledge and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute code of ethics and standards of practice. These undergraduate and graduate programs position Neeley students to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world.

Entry into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program signals to students, employers and the marketplace that the Neeley School of Business at TCU is closely tied to professional practice and preparing students to sit for the CFA exams. Through participation in this program, the Neeley School is eligible to receive student scholarships for the CFA program each year.

A Chartered Financial Analyst, Finance Professor Larry Lockwood administers the CFA track courses at the Neeley School. He has assisted CFA Societies and instructed CFA candidates across the U.S. and Europe since 1987. Lockwood is the Stan Block Endowed Chair in Finance and is advisor for the Neeley School’s prestigious Educational Investment Fund, the first entirely student-run fund, established in 1973.

“Because TCU is among just a handful of universities worldwide to have both the undergraduate and MBA finance programs identified with this honor,” Lockwood said, “the award exemplifies our faculty and administrators’ commitment to excellence. Our students are being recognized for striving to become serious investment professionals and ethical leaders in an increasingly global marketplace.”

Jim Hille, TCU’s chief investment officer, added: “Events that have unfolded in the finance industry in the last few years highlight the crucial need for finance professionals who are exceptionally skilled and ethically aware. Through the CFA Institute University Recognition Program, TCU students master the body of knowledge that experts globally have identified as essential. Importantly, the CFA program is aligned with TCU’s mission to prepare future investment professionals to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in the global community.”
