Brite Divinity School/TCU hosting Ministers Week Feb. 18-21

Brite Divinity School and TCU will present the annual Ministers Week Feb. 18-21, featuring lectures, sermons, workshops and worship services. Most events are held in the facilities of co-sponsor University Christian Church.

 

Rev. Dr. Anthony Bailey, senior pastor of Parkdale United Church, Ottowa, Canada will deliver the Wells Sermons at 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

Another special guest is Dr. Rita Nakashima Brock, founding co-director of Brite’s recently launched Soul Repair Center which aims to teach clergy how to assist combat veterans with problems around “moral injury” that psychology and medicine cannot address. She will speak at the Scott Lectures at 9 and 11 a.m. Tuesday.

 

Wednesday is filled with workshops led by Dr. Deborah Creamer of Iliff School of Theology in Denver. At 4 p.m. in the sanctuary, there will be an organ recital and hymn sing featuring, Dr. Lawrence P. Schreiber, retired minister of music at The National City Christian Church in Washington, D.C.

 

Dr. Jeremy Schipper, associate professor of Hebrew Bible at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., will deliver the McFadin Lecture at 9 a.m. Thursday in UCC Fellowship Hall.

 

Distinguished Minister Awards will be presented at Tuesday’s Brite luncheon at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitors Center. Recipients include Rev. Ernest (Ben) Todd Jr., (for innovative ministry), Revs. Gail and Wayne Long (for specialized ministry), Rev. Curtis L. Keith Jr. and Rev. Clyde E. Nichols (for pastoral ministry).
