Young horn players invited to “Play with the Pros” at Horn Fest March 7

The third annual TCU Horn Fest, sponsored by the School of Music, is set for 7 p.m. Monday, March 7 in Ed Landreth Auditorium.  The free event is the culmination of two days of immersion in “all things brass” for the 100-plus young horn players who participate.

They come from middle and high schools around North Texas to attend masterclasses, rehearse for the final concert and audition their ensembles to win a newly-established competition that features a cash prize donated by a vendor.

Teachers include Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra musicians Alton F. Adkins Jr., Mark Houghton and Aaron Pino.

The brass concert will feature 12 professional musicians, the TCU Horn Ensemble, teachers and TCU music students, joining the winning ensembles onstage for a collaborative performance. This year’s program includes “Malaguena” and “Amazing Grace.”
