Joretta Marshall elected Dean of Brite Divinity School

Trustees of Brite Divinity School have elected Dr. Joretta Marshall as Executive Vice President and Dean, effective June 1, 2012.  Dr. Marshall joined the Brite faculty as Professor of Pastoral Theology, Pastoral Care and Pastoral Counseling in August 2007.

In 2011 she also was appointed Director of Brite’s Carpenter Initiative in Gender, Sexuality, and Justice.   Prior to coming to Brite, Dr. Marshall taught and served as Academic Dean (from 2001-2005) at Eden Theological Seminary.  Earlier, she taught and served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (1998-2000) at Iliff School of Theology and on the faculty of Vanderbilt Divinity School.  The author of two books and co-editor of two others, as well as numerous articles and chapters in scholarly publications, Dr. Marshall is an Elder in the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Executive Vice President and Dean and Professor of Pastoral Theology and Pastoral Care Nancy J. Ramsay will return to fulltime teaching at the end of the spring semester. During the past seven years, Dr. Ramsay has effectively overseen searches resulting in the appointment of nearly half of the current 22 members of the Brite faculty and several members of the administrative staff.  She has also led Brite through two successful accreditation reviews.
